Federal Reserve officials hinted yesterday that they might step up the pace of interest-rate hikes this year and next. Policymakers voted unanimously to raise the benchmark federal funds rate by a quarter of a percentage point to a range between 1.75 percent and 2 percent. That marks the second of four increases anticipated for 2018, up from a projection of three at the Fed’s March meeting. Fed officials believe the central bank will need to push up rates at least three more times in 2019 and at least once more in 2020.
