More People Are Now Checking Their Credit Scores

A new poll of more than 1,000 consumers finds that about 57 percent have checked their credit scores in the last year, versus 49 percent who did so in 2014. People who have checked their rating tend to know more about credit scores, according to the Consumer Federation of America, which commissioned the survey. More firms, including credit card companies, are offering some form of credit scores to customers who enroll for their products; and consumers also can retrieve updates each year from AnnualCreditReport.com. Recent data breaches, including at Equifax, do not appear to be the catalyst for the increased activity surrounding credit score checks, meanwhile, as diligence picked up steadily before the Equifax debacle.
